In the last weekend (5-6/2/17), researchers from the Dead Sea branch together with preschool children from Kibbutz Ein Gedi were introduced to the local environment. The kids engaged in scientific activities in the nursery and were taken on an attractive and certainly unusual cruise in the Dead Sea. During the tour we discussed the local unique geology (found just off the deck…), the significance of the visible drop in the water level, the way sinkholes are formed and even in the difficulty of the skipper to receive a reliable weather forecast under the local micro-climate conditions. We and the children were exposed together to various and strange forms of salts and minerals, we checked what the salt tasted like, and we even discovered diamonds(!).
We are grateful to the 'Salty Landscapes' team for providing access to the sea and for carrying out the cruise in a very professional way and with a big smile.
