Recently, Dr. Yaron Finzi of the Science Center met with the Austrian space delegation, including researchers Sophie Gruber and Gronot Gromer of OWF, and Mitzpe Ramon Mayor Roni Marom, to discuss the possibility of launching a mission to simulate research on Mars in the Mitzpe Ramon vicinity. The Austrian delegation is considering whether to conduct their next simulation in Israel or Oman. Roni and Yaron emphasized the advantages of carrying out the next simulation in the Negev, south of Makhtesh Ramon.
The Dead Sea and Arava Science Center, Mitzpeh Ramon Branch, is currently promoting the establishment of the Makhteshim Country Geopark in the area surrounding Mitzpeh Ramon and Makhtesh Ramon. This initiative facilitates the development of educational programs in the field of earth sciences, strengthens the tourism in Mitzpeh Ramon and encourages initiatives in various fields of science. The Science Center congratulates the Austrian delegation on the selection of the Ramon Crater for the first pilot in the field and encourages continued cooperation with the Mitzpe Ramon Local Council.
